Discover the magic of El Monte Bajo, a unique
luxury private villa close to Nerja (Málaga)

This rustic-style farmhouse sits gracefully facing south, gazing out over a tropical garden with the Mediterranean in full view and the Sierra Almijara mountains to the east.

Some 45 minutes by car from Malaga airport, moments from the beach and close to the coastal pueblo of Nerja, this ‘finca’ with its tropical garden alludes dignity and calm positive energy.

Properties like this are not built, they evolve over the decades or centuries. It’s an immersive experience. We think it’s heaven on earth but our guests tell the real story.

Just imagine ...

Just out of the water from your morning dip, you’re in time to watch the dawn mist evaporate above the mountains as you stroll back towards the patio and the house where the smell of coffee beckons. Pass the lemon tree and notice the brown squirrel clutching its morning meal and leaping from branch to branch in the date palm.

There aren’t noisy neighbours around here. The views are panoramic as we sit with a coffee looking out to sea. Discover the pond with its fish gliding through the crystal clear water. You may notice a little toad crossing your path, at a snail’s pace. Then there’s the chameleon hiding behind its favourite tree not to mention the lizards who prefer ‘la vida nocturna’ – the mysterious life in the garden after dark.

El Monte Bajo is an appealing terracotta roofed home with views of the garden, the sea and the precious Sierra Almijara mountains. A hidden holiday gem not visible from the main road and known only to a handful of locals. Your own piece of heaven where the air is clean and the birds sing. Snuggle up with a book in one of the many quiet corners next to the fruit trees. Float away in the serenity of the pool under a cloudless sky, your view only interrupted by the subtle rattle of the palms in the breeze. Drinks are waiting at the poolside cabaña while you select your favourite songs to stream.

As daylight fades, the garden is illuminated, the moon crawls into the night sky, the garden is illuminated and the lights of Nerja twinkle below. These are moments to savour, pinch yourself, ‘stay in the present’, you are really here!

After dinner there’s time for a few more gentle tipples. Leave your seat, explore the garden, make new friends with the frogs as they take an evening dip in the pond.  Pick some lavender and place it on your pillow before you drift away. The beds are firm and supportive, the room is 100% dark, nothing can stop you from sleeping like a baby until dawn and beyond.  Mañana is another day.

You may never want to leave El Monte Bajo but if you do, the former fishing village of Nerja is 25 minutes on foot along the beach or 5 minutes by taxi.  The iconic centre of town, the ‘Balcon de Europa’ stretched out into the Sea. Either side and below you’ll find compact coves where the waves lap the shore. There’s Playa de Salon and Playa de Calahonda. Nerja is ‘el lugar más encantador’, an enchanting place indeed it occupies a special place in the affections of Spañards from around the country. They remember with nostalgia that Nerja was the setting for a 19 part television serial in the early 1980s called ‘Verano Azul’.   Then, a group of teens travelled south. The fisherman and other characters they met along the way characterised the optimism and romance of the time and Nerja was at the centre of it.  In this pueblo, there are cobbled streets where you can buy handcrafted souveniers, watch the street artists and musicians while you choose your tapas from grilled aubergine, fried boquerones, chorizo and manchego cheese. Your glass of rioja will likely not be too far from your lips.

¡We’re going to make you feel at home.  Bienvenidos and welcome to El Monte Bajo !
